Prosus Ventures has led a US$30 million series A funding round in Fundamental Research Labs, a San Francisco-based applied AI research company.

Other investors include a16z Speedrun, Patron, First Spark, Factorial, VamosVentures, and several angel investors.

The new funding will support research, team growth, and the development of new AI products.

Fundamental Research Labs builds autonomous AI agents designed to collaborate on complex, long-term tasks.

The company was co-founded by Dr. Robert Yang, a former MIT faculty member, along with researchers and engineers from MIT, Stanford, and Google X.

Its agents were initially tested in gaming environments like Minecraft and Roblox, and are now being adapted for broader computer applications.

The company has raised over US$40 million to date, following a US$9 million seed round in May 2024.
