Prosus leads $2.5m round for Indian software platform CodeKarma

CodeKarma, a software productivity platform based in Bangalore, has raised US$2.5 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Prosus, Accel, and Xeed Ventures.

SenseAI Ventures and Stargazer Ventures also joined the round.

The company will use the new funding to develop its AI-powered technology, expand into new enterprise sectors, and strengthen its presence in the US.

CEO Ananth Vanchi said the funding will support hiring and further product development as the company scales operations.

CodeKarma provides tools that integrate real-time production data into software development workflows, aiming to help developers and AI systems identify risks and improve code quality.

Its platform targets industries with large, complex codebases, such as ecommerce, fintech, and logistics.

The company was founded in India and is focused on building software tools for both human and AI developers.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ CodeKarma targets the emerging complexity crisis in AI-driven software development

The timing of CodeKarma’s launch coincides with a fundamental shift in how software is created, as AI code generation tools become mainstream but create new management challenges.

Research shows that while AI can quickly generate code, “the final 30% of refinement requires human expertise,” creating what experts call the “70% problem”1.

This gap becomes particularly acute with large codebases, where current AI tools “struggle with tasks requiring deep understanding and context, such as refactoring and maintaining large codebases”2.

CodeKarma’s focus on providing “real-time production insights” directly addresses this emerging pain point, positioning the company at the intersection of AI adoption and the complexity management challenges it creates.

The investor interest from major VCs like Prosus and Accel suggests recognition that this represents a new software category rather than just another developer tool.

2️⃣ The platform addresses a historical pattern of tool evolution in software engineering
