China-based autonomous driving company Pony.ai has established Chongqing Pony.ai Technology Co. Ltd. with registered capital of 30 million yuan (US$4.42 million), according to Qichacha data.

The new subsidiary names Zhang Ning as its legal representative. Its business scope focuses on online ride-hailing services and sales of AI hardware and electronic equipment.

According to registry data, the new entity is wholly owned by Beijing Pony.ai Technology Co. Ltd,.

The move adds to Pony.ai’s expansion in China. The company said it was the first to launch a public-facing robotaxi service in China.

It also recently said its Toyota-backed Gen-7 bZ4X robotaxi received an on-road testing permit in Guangzhou.

Chongqing already has a regulatory route for commercial driverless ride-hailing, previously utilized by competitors like Baidu.
