Polymarket under fire over deceptive creator video

Polymarket reportedly paid online creators to post deceptive videos that appeared to show lucrative bets and winnings.

The videos reportedly used “near-perfect copies” of Polymarket’s site.

A review of 1,100 videos and company guidance found creators were told not to say in the videos that Polymarket had paid them.

Some later added “@polymarket partner” to their bios after journalists began asking questions, even though US Federal Trade Commission guidance says such disclosures must appear with the endorsement itself rather than only on a profile page.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission in 2022 ordered Polymarket’s operator to pay US$1.4 million and wind down non-compliant event markets offered off-exchange without required registration.

Polymarket said it plans to audit its promotional content.
