India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the country’s potential as a hub for affordable AI during the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, the largest AI conference held in a developing nation.

Modi highlighted India’s vast, tech-savvy population and deep engineering talent as key assets for developing scalable AI models to be shared globally, advocating for open and shared AI to benefit the world.

Major investments were announced, including a partnership between OpenAI and Tata Group to build a data center starting at 100 megawatts, with plans to expand to 1 gigawatt.
