Globe Telecom, a Filipino telecommunications company, plans to spend at least US$1 billion in 2027, mainly to expand its data business, president and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz said.

The company already has a presence in data centers through ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines, a venture with parent Ayala Corp. and Singapore Technologies Telemedia.

Cruz said the operator runs five facilities. Capacity is set to reach 30 to 35 megawatts by the end of 2026, then rise to 124 MW over the following three years through new sites and expansions.

The push comes as the Philippines updated rules on government data classification and residency under Executive Order No. 119, s. 2026.

Globe is also considering a possible listing of the venture as fintech unit Mynt, which operates GCash, prepares for what Cruz said was expected to be the Philippines’ biggest initial public offering.
