Philippine digital lender Skyro launches loans in Malaysia

Philippine digital lender Skyro has launched online cash loans in Malaysia, expanding beyond its home market, where it has more than 7 million registered users and over US$200 million in active loans.

In September 2026, the company said it had secured approval from Malaysia’s Ministry of Housing and Local Government to provide online moneylending services.

Its first product in Malaysia offers new customers loans of up to 1,000 ringgit (US$250) with repayment terms of up to four months through its mobile app. Skyro said most applicants receive a decision within minutes.

Skyro said the loans carry a fixed interest rate of 1.5% a month.

The ministry oversees Malaysia’s licensed moneylending framework and has allowed online lending by licensed moneylenders since May 2021.

The launch comes amid efforts to curb illegal moneylending. Authorities had removed 14,190 illegal loan-shark advertisements.

The market already includes other app-based providers in Malaysia, such as Adacash.
