PH ride-hailing platform’s CEO driving license suspended

The Philippines’ Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of George Royeca, CEO of the ride-hailing platform Angkas, for 90 days following a traffic incident in the country’s Rizal province.

A viral video showed several Angkas riders blocking traffic to allow a motorcade organized by Royeca to pass.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said Royeca admitted responsibility for organizing the motorcade. Other Angkas riders involved in the incident are still under investigation.

Royeca issued a public apology on Feb. 3, expressing regret for the incident and stating that Angkas is cooperating with authorities.

He acknowledged the event as a failure to maintain discipline, safety, and compliance.
