Perplexity’s AI-powered browser expands to Windows
Perplexity AI is expanding beta testing of its Comet browser to select Windows users.
CEO Aravind Srinivas announced on X that invitations for early testers of the Windows version have been sent out.
The browser, which launched a beta for Apple Silicon Macs in May, features AI tools that answer queries, scan shopping carts for discounts, and identify unanswered emails.
Comet also includes a “Try on” feature that lets users upload photos to see themselves in specific clothing items.
While there is no official release date, Srinivas said an Android version is being developed ahead of schedule.
Comet is currently maintaining a waitlist for broader access.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Browser evolution enters a new era with AI agents replacing passive surfing
Perplexity’s Comet browser represents the fourth major evolution in web browser history, following text-only browsers (1990-1993), graphical browsers like Mosaic (1993), and mobile-optimized browsers (2007-present).
The integration of AI directly into browsers marks a fundamental shift from passive information consumption to active assistance, with NCSA noting that each major browser innovation has dramatically expanded web accessibility and usage 1.
This transformation mirrors the early 1990s transition when Mosaic first added images to text, making the web visually engaging and driving adoption from 5,000 monthly downloads in late 1993 to widespread global usage 1.
Today’s AI browser competition shows parallels to the 1990s “Browser Wars,” with multiple companies (Perplexity, Opera, The Browser Company) racing to define the next standard for web interaction through features like Comet’s shopping assistant and email management 2.
The shift to “agentic” browsing represents a fundamental change in how users interact with the internet, transforming browsers from navigation tools into proactive assistants that anticipate and fulfill user needs.
2️⃣ AI browsers prioritize different capabilities in emerging market segment
The emerging AI browser market shows distinct approaches to integrating artificial intelligence, with Perplexity’s Comet focusing on search and shopping while competitors like Opera Neon emphasize content creation and automation 3.
