Perplexity AI sued by software firm for trademark violation
A Texas-based software company, Perplexity Solved Solutions (PSS), has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Perplexity AI in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
PSS claims Perplexity AI’s use of the name “Perplexity” causes consumer confusion and violates its trademark rights.
The lawsuit, filed on Jan. 30, alleges that Perplexity AI infringed on PSS’s federally registered trademark, established in 2022.
PSS, founded in 2017, provides software services that focus on AI, data analytics, and business collaboration tools.
The company declined an offer from Perplexity AI in 2023 to purchase the trademark.
After sending a cease-and-desist letter in October 2024, PSS proceeded with the lawsuit.
Perplexity AI, established in 2022, operates an AI-powered search engine and has reportedly reached a multi-billion-dollar valuation.
So far, representatives from both Perplexity AI and PSS have not commented on the ongoing case.
