Peak XV leads AI voice startup Vapi’s $50m round

Vapi, a San Francisco startup developing software for AI voice agents, has raised US$50 million in a series B round led by Peak XV Partners at a post-money valuation of about US$500 million after Amazon Ring routed inbound support calls through its platform.

Ring adopted Vapi in late 2025 after reviewing more than 40 vendors as it looked for ways to handle a holiday surge in support calls without expanding call center capacity, according to Vapi CEO Jordan Dearsley.

Other investors in the round included M12, Kleiner Perkins, and Bessemer, which brought Vapi’s total funding to US$72 million, and customer satisfaction scores improved after the rollout, said Jason Mitura, Ring executive.

Vapi said it has handled more than 1 billion calls and its customers include Intuit, New York Life, Instawork, and Kavak.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Vapi grows with a platform for developers and pay-as-you-go pricing

  • Vapi offers a developer platform that lets software teams combine AI parts such as language models and voice engines, instead of buying one fixed voice agent product 1.
  • Its pricing follows the same idea. Customers pay for what they use, with each charge broken out, instead of a per-seat software subscription 2.
  • The company charges about US$0.05 a minute for the platform. It then passes third-party costs for large language models (LLMs) and telephony straight to the customer 2.
  • That flexibility comes with more work. Customers may need to handle 4 to 6 vendor relationships, and a complex 10-minute support call can reach US$2.75 1.

Enterprise use brings a build-or-buy choice

  • Use by a large enterprise customer signals AI voice systems are moving past small pilots and into core business infrastructure at some companies 3.
  • That shift brings a familiar build-or-buy choice. Consulting firms now help large customers leave platforms such as Vapi and move to custom infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing platform 4.
  • The pattern matches a common path for developer-focused companies. An easy application programming interface (API) often wins individual developers first, then draws in large enterprise accounts and becomes part of essential business infrastructure 5.
