Peak XV leads $9.5m seed round for healthtech startup BioStack
BioStack, a healthtech startup, has raised US$9.5 million in a seed round led by Peak XV, Afore Capital, DCVC, Emerson Collective, SV Angel, Verdict Capital, Streamlined Ventures, and Y Combinator.
The company said the funding will support expansion in the US and other markets, platform development, and hiring across its engineering and research teams.
It also said it is launching a data network across the US, India, Brazil, and Argentina with access to more than 100 million de-identified patient records.
BioStack, which went through Y Combinator, turns hospital data into multimodal training datasets for medical AI. Y Combinator describes the startup as building real-world training environments for healthcare.
Cross-border data use can face different privacy rules. Properly de-identified data generally falls outside the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), but that status alone may not satisfy health-data transfer requirements in other jurisdictions.
