Peak XV joins series A round for Vietnamese startup Saladin

Saladin, a Singapore- and Vietnam-based insurtech startup, has raised an undisclosed amount in its series A funding round led by SBI Ven Capital through its joint fund with Kyobo Securities from South Korea and NTUitive from Singapore, with additional participation from Monk’s Hill Ventures, Peak XV Partners, and ICMG.

Saladin plans to use the new funding to expand into online life insurance, including term life and comprehensive health protection, and to strengthen its digital offerings and customer journey.

Founded in 2022, Saladin offers a digital-first, multi-channel insurance brokerage and distribution platform in Vietnam.

The company has partnered with 15 insurers and served nearly a million unique customers.

The company also reported having over 15,000 registered partners in its Saladin Pro agent and collaborator program, with plans to scale training and financial literacy support.

Vietnam’s insurance sector has seen regulatory changes and industry reforms, which are anticipated to catalyze further adoption of insurtech platforms.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Saladin’s Series A comes amid Vietnam life insurance’s three-year contraction

  • Vietnam life insurance will dip 1.3% in 2025 to $6.0 billion, the third straight drop after 12% in 2023 and 5.7% in 2024 1.
  • Bancassurance (insurance sold via bank channels) abuses such as false promises, unclear terms, tying policies to loans led to a 7.5% drop in active policies in 2023 and pushed penetration from 1.9% in 2022 to 1.3% in 2024 1.
  • Saladin operates as a digital-first broker, which could sidestep bancassurance pitfalls. Its claim of nearly a million unique customers needs context against life Gross Written Premium (GWP) of about Vietnamese dong (VND) 148 trillion (US$6.1 billion) in 2024 and total insurance premium revenue of roughly VND227.5 trillion (US$8.9 billion) 12.
  • The revised Insurance Business Law from November 2023 bans life sales within 60 days of loan disbursement and fines banks for linking non-mandatory cover to loans, which helps independent brokers like Saladin but shrinks a channel that once powered growth 1.

For fintech vendors, Vietnam insurers rush to digitize claims and distribution

  • Tech adoption jumped. 92.2% now use AI in claims, up from 40.9% a year earlier 3. 98.7% plan to lift tech spend in 2025 3.
  • AIA with Bao Viet Life rolled out digital tools for claims, policy management plus feedback 4. Dai-ichi Life and Manulife launched similar platforms 4. VietinBank Insurance is adding AI and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to improve service 4.
  • Platforms like Saladin count 15,000+ registered partners (sales agents and collaborators) which drives demand for agent-management software, commission tracking, and mobile sales tools 1. As bancassurance bundles fade, direct online sales need customer acquisition tools such as digital marketing, lead generation, and conversion optimization that work without bank partnerships.
