🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Peak XV sold its last MobiKwik stake after a steep valuation drop

  • Peak XV sold its remaining MobiKwik stake at 214 rupees (US$2.3) a share, far below its recent sale price.
  • A week after MobiKwik’s initial public offering (IPO), Peak XV sold a 1.55% stake at an average price of 679.38 rupees (US$7.2) per share. That cut its holding from 2.81% to 1.26% 1.
  • The last sale came at a price nearly 70% lower. MobiKwik shares had also fallen after listing, with a negative 40% one-year return in early April 2026 2.

The sale shows how tough the market is for smaller fintech companies

  • MobiKwik competes with PhonePe, a large Indian digital payments company, plus Paytm, a large Indian fintech platform, in a crowded market where scale matters 2.
  • The company has tried to stand out through credit products plus a focus on Tier-2/3 cities, meaning smaller Indian cities outside the biggest metro areas. Its smaller balance sheet leaves less room for cash subsidies 2.
  • For Peak XV, selling the rest of its stake at a low price frees up capital. The firm is also seeking exits from Groww, which is an Indian investment platform, plus Pine Labs, which is a payments and merchant commerce company. It is also putting more attention on AI 3.
