Peak XV-backed tech startup debuts India’s first AI microdrama

Dashverse, an AI entertainment company based in Bengaluru and San Francisco, has launched Raftaar, India’s first microdrama series produced entirely with generative AI.

The 90-minute serialized show was created using Dashverse’s proprietary platform, Frameo.AI, and is available on the DashReels app.

Dashverse said its technology reduced production time and costs compared to traditional methods and reported Raftaar reached over 1 million views shortly after launch.

The company plans to produce 100 more AI-generated microdramas by the end of the year.

Dashverse recently raised US$13 million in series A funding led by Peak XV Partners, with participation from Z47 and Stellaris Venture Partners.

Founded in 2023, the company develops AI-powered tools for creating and distributing digital entertainment content.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

AI production tools are dramatically reducing entertainment creation barriers

  • Dashverse’s achievement of cutting production time by 50% and costs by 75% reflects a broader trend of AI democratizing content creation across entertainment formats 1.
  • This mirrors developments in music, where artists like Taryn Southern produced entire albums using AI tools like Amper Music, enabling creators without traditional production resources to compete professionally 2.
  • The technology enables what Dashverse calls “one-person production houses,” potentially disrupting the traditional model where large teams and significant capital were required for professional video content 1.
  • This efficiency breakthrough comes at a critical time when the microdrama market demands high content velocity—the ability to produce quality shows quickly and consistently to meet audience appetite 1.

Microdrama format is experiencing explosive global growth with massive audience engagement

  • The success signals a market opportunity, with China’s microdrama sector alone reaching $5.3 billion in 2023, while platforms like Kuaishou report 270 million daily active users consuming this format 3.
  • Recent launches demonstrate traction: FlareFlow achieved over 10 million downloads in just three months and surged into the U.S. Top 5 Entertainment Apps 4.
  • Audience engagement metrics are significant—COL Group’s title “From Rags to Rank One” achieved over 238 million views in a single day, with users averaging 77 minutes of watch time 5.
  • The format’s success reflects changing consumption habits favoring mobile-first, bite-sized content designed for quick consumption, with episodes lasting 1-3 minutes that appeal particularly to audiences aged 20-35 43.
