Indonesia-based fintech Flip has partnered with Indian digital payments company Paytm to expand merchant payment services, according to a July 8 press release.

The collaboration will begin with the rollout of Paytm’s Soundbox technology to selected merchants in Jakarta.

Flip will handle local execution, while Paytm will provide its Soundbox technology and experience serving millions of merchants in India.

The Soundbox is a countertop device for merchants that gives voice confirmation of successful digital payments, helping merchants verify transactions without checking a phone screen.

The launch comes as the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has expanded digital payment acceptance in Indonesia.

Under the system, merchants can receive payments from any QRIS-enabled app through a licensed provider, and static QRIS is aimed mainly at micro and small merchants.

Flip and Paytm are entering an existing market. Similar QRIS soundbox devices are already on the market, while Telkomsel also markets a voice-notification QRIS solution through partners.
