PayPal taps Indian, Chinese wallets for cross-border payments

PayPal has launched a new platform called PayPal World to simplify cross-border payments. It allows users to make payments using their local wallets and payment systems.

Launch partners include India’s NPCI International Payments Limited (UPI) and China’s Tenpay Global (Weixin payment ecosystem).

PayPal also signed an MoU with Mercado Pago in Latin America, with more details to come.

The company aims to connect over two billion users worldwide.

The platform lets PayPal and Venmo users send money internationally, including to non-PayPal users. For example, travelers in China can use PayPal on the Weixin network to pay local businesses.

The platform is expected to launch this fall, or around September and October.
