PayPal reportedly not planning to sell itself

PayPal may not be actively seeking to sell itself, Semafor reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Earlier, Stripe expressed interest in acquiring some or all of PayPal Holdings Ltd., including its main platform and business units like Venmo, but Stripe declined to comment.

Semafor’s sources said bankers were working with Alex Chriss, whom Semafor described as PayPal’s now-ousted CEO, to prepare for a possible activist investor campaign or hostile takeover.

PayPal said its new CEO starts next week.
