PayPal integrates payments with ChatGPT for direct purchases

PayPal announced it will integrate its payments platform with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to complete purchases directly within the chatbot.

The partnership will use the Agentic Commerce Protocol for instant checkout and connect PayPal’s global merchant network to ChatGPT.

Merchants using PayPal will have their product catalogs accessible in ChatGPT starting in 2026.

ChatGPT users will be able to pay with PayPal using various funding sources and access PayPal’s buyer and seller protections.

PayPal will also handle card payments in OpenAI Instant Checkout through a delegated payments API.

The company plans to expand its use of OpenAI’s technology internally, including ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex for employees.
