Paris-based biotech startup Spore.Bio secures $23m series A

Spore.Bio, a Paris-based startup, has raised US$23 million in series A funding to advance its microbiology testing technology.

This follows an €8 million (US$8.39 million) pre-seed round last year, with backing from Singular, Point72 Ventures, 1st Kind Ventures, and others.

The company’s light-based spectral analysis and machine learning allow bacteria and pathogen detection within minutes, compared to days with traditional methods.

It collaborates with the Pasteur Institute for a bacteria sample database.

With contracts signed at 200 factories, Spore.Bio faces high demand, leading to a waitlist for its services.

The company plans to deploy on-site testing machines, offering a faster alternative to lab testing.

The new funding will support workforce expansion from 30 to 50 employees by the end of 2025.

Spore.Bio is also exploring applications in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals for faster microbiology testing.
