Palantir lands $10b AI deal with US Army
Palantir has secured a contract with the US Army valued at up to US$10 billion over the next ten years.
The Denver-based software company specializes in AI and data analytics.
The agreement consolidates 75 existing contracts into a single enterprise deal to streamline the Army’s software and data procurement.
According to the Army, the deal is designed to offer more purchasing flexibility and eliminate contract-related fees and delays.
Earlier in 2025, Palantir delivered its first two AI-powered systems to the Army as part of a US$178 million contract.
In May, the Department of Defense increased Palantir’s Maven Smart Systems contract by US$795 million to enhance AI capabilities.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Legal battles paved Palantir’s path to this massive Army deal
This $10 billion contract represents the culmination of Palantir’s years-long fight against Pentagon procurement practices that historically favored traditional defense contractors over Silicon Valley firms.
Palantir sued the Army in 2016 after being excluded from bidding on contracts that aligned with its core data analytics capabilities1. The court ruled in Palantir’s favor, finding that the Army failed to conduct proper market research and unlawfully excluded commercial solutions2.
The lawsuit specifically targeted the Army’s $6 billion Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A), which had been widely criticized as overly complex and ineffective in field operations3. Internal Army evaluations revealed that DCGS-A was often unused due to reliability issues, creating an opening for Palantir’s alternative2.
Following its legal victory, Palantir secured its first major Army contract worth $876 million in 2019 to replace the troubled DCGS-A system2. The current $10 billion deal consolidating 75 separate contracts into one enterprise agreement reflects the Army’s adoption of the “try, buy, decide” methodology that emerged from Palantir’s successful challenge to traditional procurement practices2.
2️⃣ Palantir captures significant share of rapidly expanding defense software market
This deal positions Palantir to capitalize on a defense software market projected to grow from $650.5 billion in 2021 to $790.3 billion by 20284.
Palantir’s government revenue reached $1.2 billion in 2023, representing over half of its total $2.23 billion in annual revenue5. The company’s gross margins exceed 82%, demonstrating the scalability of software-based defense solutions compared to traditional hardware-heavy contracts5.
