Palantir’s journey from CIA-funded startup to commercial AI powerhouse illustrates how defense-focused companies can pivot to broader markets while leveraging their government expertise.

Initially funded by the CIA’s venture arm In-Q-Tel, Palantir built its foundation on intelligence and military contracts that still comprise over 40% of its revenue 1.

This government-first approach created uniquely robust security architecture that now appeals to commercial clients handling sensitive data, helping drive the 71% growth in US commercial revenue to $255 million in Q1 2.
