🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Surgery-focused platforms emerge as India’s breakthrough healthcare tech segment

HexaHealth represents a growing category of specialized platforms focused exclusively on surgical care coordination in India, with multiple competitors including Pristyn Care (founded 2018), Glamyo Health (2019), and Ayu Health (2019) all having raised significant funding in recent years 1.

This segment is addressing a critical need: inadequate surgical care contributes to 18 million preventable deaths annually worldwide, with access being particularly challenging in emerging markets 2.

The economics appear promising, with HexaHealth already achieving positive contribution margins while facilitating approximately 15,000 surgeries valued at ₹150 crore in FY25 alone, demonstrating the viability of their business model.

These surgery platforms are part of India’s broader digital health ecosystem, which is projected to expand dramatically from its current size to $37 billion by 2030, driven by increasing insurance penetration and technological advancements 3.

The focused approach on surgical care specifically, rather than general healthcare, appears to be resonating with both investors and patients, suggesting specialized platforms may outperform general healthcare apps in certain high-value segments.

2️⃣ AI integration becoming the competitive battleground in surgical care platforms

HexaHealth’s emphasis on building an AI-powered platform for personalized care reflects a broader trend in Indian healthcare, where AI is increasingly vital for diagnostic efficiency and operational excellence.

A recent survey shows growing AI adoption among Indian surgeons, with 60.8% now familiar with the technology, though only 47.3% currently use it clinically—highlighting both progress and remaining adoption gaps 4.

AI is primarily being deployed in surgical contexts for diagnostic imaging (31.1%) and administrative tasks (23%), areas where HexaHealth is likely focusing its technology investments to streamline the patient journey 4.
