Oracle starts new round of layoffs as AI spending rises
Oracle has begun another round of layoffs, according to leaked internal documents and posts from affected workers on LinkedIn, Reddit, and Blind.
The cuts reportedly hit sales, engineering, and security roles. Some teams could face double-digit percentage cuts, according to the leaked documents.
The layoffs follow reports last month that Oracle was seeking to cut salary costs while raising debt for AI infrastructure, including a US$25 billion bond sale tied to that spending.
Oracle said on September 11 it expanded its restructuring plan, adding US$700 million for severance and layoff-related costs as investment in AI infrastructure rises.
The company had 141,000 employees as of May 31, down from 162,000 a year earlier. Its first-quarter capital expenditure reached US$28.5 billion, up from US$8.5 billion a year earlier.
