Oracle jumps 7% after Q1 beat on cloud growth

Oracle shares jumped 7% in extended trading on September 10 after the software company reported better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results and forecast second-quarter revenue growth in line with Wall Street estimates.

Revenue rose nearly 30% year on year. Net income increased to US$4.68 billion from US$2.93 billion a year earlier.

Cloud revenue climbed 62% to US$11.61 billion, driven by demand for AI data center capacity.

Oracle has also been expanding infrastructure tied to OpenAI’s 4.5-gigawatt Stargate partnership, though the quarter’s results were not directly attributed to that project.

Oracle also reported US$125 billion in debt. Negative free cash flow widened to US$5.4 billion as capital expenditures rose to US$28.5 billion.

The company’s debt load partly reflects financing for its Cerner acquisition, which Fitch linked to higher leverage.
