Oracle cloud revenue misses expectations in Q2
Oracle reported Q2 cloud revenue of US$8.0 billion, up 34% year-on-year, but below analyst expectations.
Infrastructure cloud sales rose 68% to US$4.1 billion, also missing estimates.
The company’s remaining performance obligation reached US$523 billion, slightly exceeding forecasts.
Oracle, known for database software, has expanded in cloud computing and is building new data centers for clients like OpenAI, TikTok, and Meta.
Capital expenditures for the quarter rose to US$12 billion, up from US$8.5 billion previously, surpassing analyst projections and reflecting higher spending on infrastructure.
Shares fell 5% in after-hours trading and are down about 33% since September.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Oracle’s capex surge lacks clarity on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) unit economics
- FY2025 capex reached $21.2 billion and the latest quarter logged $9.1 billion 12, but Oracle has not shared OCI metrics like gross margins or GPU utilization or capex-to-revenue timelines.
- CEO Safra Catz expects cloud infrastructure revenue to move from 50% growth in FY25 to over 70% in FY26 1, yet Q2 infrastructure rose 68% but missed estimates.
- FY26 capex stands at $25 billion, which Safra Catz said may be understated 2. Combined with Q2 cloud revenue misses, that raises risk that build speed outpaces revenue.
Vendors can target Oracle’s 47 planned MultiCloud sites and Dedicated Region25
- Oracle plans 47 MultiCloud datacenters over 12 months, plus 23 live 1. These sites link to other clouds, driving demand for power equipment, liquid cooling, and electrical or mechanical contractors with hyperscaler partners (the largest global cloud platforms).
- OCI Dedicated Region25, Oracle’s small-footprint on-premises cloud region, starts with three racks and ships within weeks 3. That opens orders for modular data center suppliers, edge computing hardware vendors (systems that run compute near where data is generated), and compact high-density gear.
- Energy developers plus grid interconnection specialists (firms that connect large facilities to the power grid) should track Oracle’s site picks. Watch gigawatt-scale AI training sites Larry Ellison, Oracle’s chairman and chief technology officer, mentioned 2. Position for power procurement, renewable deals, and transmission work to support Oracle’s goal of 100% renewable energy across all OCI data centers by 2025 4.
