Oracle Cloud adds xAI’s Grok 3 for business users

Oracle has announced a collaboration with Elon Musk’s AI firm xAI to offer its AI model, Grok 3, to business customers through Oracle’s cloud computing division.

Launched in February 2025, Grok 3 competes with models from OpenAI and DeepSeek and was previously limited to X and xAI platforms.

With this deal, businesses can access Grok 3 through Oracle’s secure data centers.

Oracle already provides access to AI models from Meta, Mistral, and Cohere through its cloud services.

Oracle focuses on offering third-party AI models, not developing its own, to give clients flexible integration options.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Oracle’s “neutral platform” strategy differs from competitors developing proprietary AI models

Oracle’s approach of offering multiple AI models from different companies (Meta, Mistral, Cohere, and now xAI) represents a distinct strategy in the enterprise AI market compared to companies building their own models.

When Oracle executive Karan Batta explicitly stated “we don’t have our own [models],” this highlights the company’s deliberate positioning as a neutral platform provider rather than an AI model creator 1.

This strategy enables Oracle to quickly expand its AI offerings without the massive R&D investment required to build competitive foundational models from scratch.

For enterprise customers, this multi-model approach provides flexibility to select the most appropriate AI model for specific use cases without being locked into a single provider’s ecosystem.

Oracle’s strategy reflects the company’s historical strength in enterprise infrastructure rather than consumer-facing technologies, focusing on integration and security rather than competing directly with specialized AI labs.

2️⃣ Enterprise cloud providers are betting on AI infrastructure as their competitive advantage

Oracle’s partnership with xAI follows the company’s massive $40 billion investment in NVIDIA’s next-generation AI chips, signaling how cloud providers see infrastructure as a critical competitive advantage in the AI era 2.

This infrastructure-focused strategy addresses a key enterprise challenge: running advanced AI models while maintaining existing security protocols and data governance policies.
