Oppo invests $4.2m in AI imaging center at HK university
Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has renewed its partnership with Hong Kong Polytechnic University to set up a research center focused on AI imaging technology.
Oppo is allocating 30 million yuan (US$4.2 million) for the project over five years to foster research collaboration and training.
The research center will launch by January next year and will build on a previous lab created two years ago.
It aims to involve around 25 doctoral researchers and several postdoctoral candidates, concentrating on computer vision and generative AI technologies.
Zhang Lei, chair professor of computer vision and image analysis at PolyU, has been appointed to lead this research facility.
