OpenAI’s video-generating app Sora reached 627,000 iOS downloads in its first week, surpassing ChatGPT’s 606,000 first-week installs.

Launched on September 30, 2025, in the US and Canada, Sora’s rollout was broader than ChatGPT’s initial US-only release.

Appfigures estimates about 45,000 downloads came from Canada, suggesting US numbers were nearly identical to ChatGPT’s launch performance.

Despite being invite-only, Sora topped the US App Store on October 3, 2025.

Daily installs peaked at 107,800 on October 1, 2025, with downloads staying between 84,400 and 98,500 afterward, outperforming AI app launches like Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
