OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati announced her departure Wednesday on X after six and a half years with the company, expressing a wish to pursue new opportunities.

Recently, she held the interim leadership position at OpenAI after CEO Sam Altman was briefly removed in November.

Altman recognized Murati’s contributions in a statement on X, highlighting her pivotal role at OpenAI and thanking her for her support.

Murati’s resignation follows the departure of co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, who left his role leading a team tasked with addressing AI risks just four months earlier.
