OpenAI’s Altman seeks infrastructure funds on Asia, UAE tour
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is seeking partners in East Asia and the Middle East to secure funding and boost the company’s computing power.
Since September 2025, Altman has met with major chipmakers in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, including TSMC, Foxconn, Samsung, and SK Hynix, to discuss expanding AI chip production.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have signed letters of intent to supply memory chips for OpenAI’s data centers.
Altman also plans to meet investors in the United Arab Emirates to raise funds for infrastructure and research expansion.
OpenAI reportedly told investors it could spend about US$16 billion on server rentals this year, potentially rising to US$400 billion by 2029, though Reuters could not verify the report.
