OpenAI’s Altman says ‘no plans’ to sue DeepSeek

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman announced that the company will not pursue legal action against the Chinese startup DeepSeek.

This follows discussions about DeepSeek’s innovative chatbot, which has gained attention for its significant capabilities.

DeepSeek’s chatbot has faced scrutiny for potentially replicating AI systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

During a press conference in Tokyo on Feb. 3, Altman said, “We have no plans to sue DeepSeek right now.”

He highlighted that OpenAI is concentrating on advancing its AI models and maintaining its leadership position.

OpenAI previously warned about competitors using techniques like distillation, where smaller models imitate larger, more complex systems.
