OpenAI’s Altman said to meet Middle East investors for $50b round

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has been meeting with Middle Eastern investors to secure funding for a potential new round valued between US$750 billion and US$830 billion, according to sources.

The company is aiming to raise at least US$50 billion in this round, which is still in early discussions and could change. Altman recently visited Abu Dhabi, where he spoke with several state-backed funds.

OpenAI has previously raised billions to fund infrastructure costs such as chips and data centers and has committed to spending over US$1.4 trillion on AI infrastructure in the coming years.

The company, which is not yet profitable, has also discussed raising at least US$10 billion from other sources, including Amazon.

Its last valuation was reported at US$500 billion in late 2025.

OpenAI faces increasing competition from other AI firms like Google and Anthropic, which is seeking funding at a valuation of around US$350 billion.
