OpenAI said at its DevDay event that it launched Dots, a personal AI assistant built on GPT-6 Astra that can work in the background on user-defined tasks with minimal oversight.

Dots will be available in ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets from September 29.

Users can launch Dots from ChatGPT or Codex and message the assistant through Slack, Teams, and other workplace platforms. Text message support is coming soon.

OpenAI said users can give Dots distinct identities, credentials, and tools for tasks such as software maintenance or data analysis.

Microsoft described Agent 365 as a control plane for agents and provided guidance on securing AI agents at scale.

OpenAI also has a public system card for GPT-6 Astra, but it does not specify which model capabilities enable Dots’ background behavior.
