OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank have announced five new US AI data center sites under the Stargate infrastructure project.

The Stargate platform, which includes sites in Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, and the Midwest, now plans nearly 7 gigawatts of capacity and over US$400 billion in investment through 2028.

OpenAI, based in San Francisco, develops advanced AI systems.

The companies said the expansions put them ahead of schedule toward their previously stated goal of US$500 billion invested and 10 gigawatts of capacity by the end of 2025.

Three of the new sites—one in Texas, one in New Mexico, and one in the Midwest—are being developed with Oracle, along with a potential expansion near the flagship Stargate campus in Abilene, Texas, where Oracle recently began deploying Nvidia GB200 racks.

Two additional sites in Ohio and Texas will be developed with SoftBank and SB Energy, targeting 1.5 gigawatts of capacity over the next 18 months.

The partners reviewed over 300 proposals from more than 30 states to select these locations.
