OpenAI is reviewing its product strategies after the launch of DeepSeek’s open source AI model R1, which has gained attention for its capabilities.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly described the competition as “invigorating” and announced plans to release more advanced AI systems soon.

OpenAI is also considering increasing transparency and re-evaluating its open-source policies.

Altman acknowledged that the company’s previous stance on open-source may have been “on the wrong side of history.”

DeepSeek’s open-source model offers more flexibility for developers, unlike OpenAI’s historically closed approach.

Despite the competition, investment in AI infrastructure remains a priority for major tech firms, with OpenAI continuing its US$500 billion project in collaboration with SoftBank and Oracle.
