OpenAI ramps up robotics work with new AI, humanoid experts
OpenAI is stepping up its robotics push, hiring researchers with expertise in AI algorithms and humanoid systems as it explores new approaches to AI.
Recent job listings and hires indicate that OpenAI is building a team focused on teleoperation and simulation for training robots, including those with partial or full human forms.
Chengshu Li, a robotics researcher previously at Stanford University, joined OpenAI in June 2025, bringing experience in benchmarking humanoid robots for household tasks.
Other researchers from robotics labs have also joined the company in recent months.
It is unclear if OpenAI plans to build its own robots or partner with hardware providers.
