OpenAI to open Singapore office, expand into APAC

OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has announced plans to establish an office in Singapore later this year, marking an expansion into the Asia-Pacific region.

The Singapore team will focus on building relationships with local and regional government bodies, businesses, and educational institutions.

During its announcement at Tech Week Singapore, OpenAI highlighted Singapore’s prominent role in technology and AI, fueled by a rising need for AI solutions across the Asia-Pacific.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, said Singapore’s conducive environment has positioned it as a frontrunner in AI.

To spearhead its regional initiatives, OpenAI has appointed Oliver Jay as managing director for international operations, who will operate from the Singapore office overseeing the company’s Asia-Pacific projects.
