OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Terra for computer use, coding, and visual reasoning.

The model is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and to developers through the OpenAI application programming interface (API).

OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Terra’s standard API pricing is 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. The company said the model is for high-volume tasks such as reading invoices, filling out forms, and editing videos.

OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Terra outperformed GPT-5.6 Terra in its internal factuality tests and benchmarks for visual reasoning, desktop-based tasks, and command-line coding. However, OpenAi added that GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol remain better suited to the most complex coding work.

For companies handling sensitive content, OpenAI separately announced zero retention for some frontier models and published guidance on data controls, although the available material does not specify how either applies to GPT-6.1 Terra.
