At its DevDay event, OpenAI unveiled GPT-6.1 Sol, saying the model approaches GPT-6 Astra in agentic coding, computer use, and professional work while costing one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token prices.

OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Sol also improves programming, debugging, document understanding, and multi-step workflows.

It is available from September 29 to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, but not yet in Chat.

The release comes a week after GPT-6 Sol, while OpenAI did not launch GPT-6.1 Astra.

GPT-6.1 Astra was reportedly scrapped after internal tests raised safety concerns over deception and a tendency to proceed with tasks without asking the user for permission.

OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Sol also improves factual accuracy on difficult prompts. At low reasoning effort, the share of responses with factual errors fell from 11.4% to 7.7%.
