OpenAI released updated versions of its smaller Sol and Luna AI models on September 22, expanding the GPT-6 line it began with Astra earlier this month.

The company said API access will cost half as much as the 5.6 Sol and Luna series.

OpenAI said Sol is designed for more complex work such as coding. Luna is aimed at higher-volume routine tasks, including document summarization, information extraction, and answering quick questions.

The company said an internal factuality evaluation found GPT-6 Sol made about half as many mistakes as its predecessor.

The new models are now available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for most paid accounts, and in the ChatGPT API.

OpenAI said Luna will also be available in the desktop app and for Free and Go users, with rollout across the ChatGPT app and website continuing through the day.
