OpenAI and Instacart have launched an integrated grocery shopping feature within ChatGPT, allowing users to browse, add items to their cart, and check out in the chat.

Instacart is the first app to enable direct checkout using the agentic commerce protocol, and users who link their accounts can search for groceries, receive product suggestions, and pay directly.

Instacart will handle fulfillment and delivery.

The move expands an existing partnership between the two companies, which previously collaborated on AI-powered shopping features.

Instacart also uses OpenAI’s technology for internal operations, including recommendations and workflow automation, as OpenAI continues integrating its services with large enterprises.
