OpenAI is looking to hire an executive to lead ad and monetization efforts for ChatGPT, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Fidji Simo, who became OpenAI’s CEO of Applications in August after leaving Instacart, has held discussions with candidates, including former Facebook colleagues.

The role would oversee all monetization initiatives, including subscriptions, and report directly to Simo.

Simo currently manages most of OpenAI’s teams, except for research, infrastructure, consumer hardware, and safety, which report to CEO Sam Altman.

Discussions about the new hire are ongoing.
