OpenAI to contract AI compute from Firmus’ Malaysia sites

Sydney-based Firmus, an AI infrastructure company, said on September 8 that OpenAI will contract dedicated AI compute capacity from two Firmus AI factory sites in Malaysia under a multi-year partnership.

Firmus said OpenAI will become an anchor customer. The company added that the partnership brings its total contracted capacity across customers to more than 900 MW.

The deal adds Malaysia to Firmus’ AI factory footprint in Australia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Separately, OpenAI’s broader infrastructure efforts include a 4.5 GW Stargate partnership with Oracle, as well as an expansion with Oracle and SoftBank to add five sites.
