OpenAI in early funding talks at $1.2t valuation

OpenAI has discussed a new funding round with major investors that could value the company at about US$1.2 trillion before any public listing, according to a report.

The talks are at an early stage and were initiated by investors, so the target valuation could still change over the coming months.

The reported figure would be a sharp increase from OpenAI’s March funding round, when the company said it had US$122 billion in committed capital and was valued at US$852 billion.

OpenAI declined to comment on the report. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on September 12 that the company would not go public in 2026 because of AI safety concerns.
