OpenAI considers board powers after Musk’s $97.4b bid
OpenAI is considering implementing special voting rights for its non-profit board to maintain control over its decisions, according to a report by the Financial Times on Feb. 18.
This consideration arises amidst concerns regarding a potential takeover attempt led by Elon Musk.
Discussions are underway between OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman and board members as the organization shifts toward a traditional for-profit model.
The proposed governance changes may help prevent future acquisition attempts, including those from Musk, a co-founder who later departed from the company.
Last week, OpenAI turned down a US$97.4 billion acquisition offer from a consortium led by Musk, stating it was not interested in selling and deeming the bid insincere.
