OpenAI backs Singapore AI push with $234m

Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information and OpenAI have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch “OpenAI for Singapore,” a multi-year partnership aimed at expanding AI use across the country.

The deal covers three areas: an OpenAI Singapore Applied AI Lab, programs to build local AI talent, and efforts to support startups, small businesses, citizens, and public sector agencies.

OpenAI said in a joint announcement that the partnership includes a commitment of more than S$300 million (US$234 million) for Singapore’s AI ecosystem, marking the company’s first such memorandum with the country.
