OpenAI appoints ex-Uber exec as chief compliance officer

OpenAI has appointed Scott Schools as its chief compliance officer. This step comes as the company faces increasing global regulations concerning AI.

Schools brings experience as chief ethics and compliance officer at Uber. He also previously served as associate deputy attorney general at the US Justice Department.

The decision comes amid regulatory evaluations in Europe and the US. These evaluations concern AI models from OpenAI and other companies.

Several notable exits recently occurred at OpenAI, including chief technology officer Mira Murati.

Che Chang, OpenAI’s general counsel, said Schools’ expertise would boost the company’s integrity and regulatory adaptation.

OpenAI also announced the appointment of Aaron Chatterji as chief economist. Chatterji, a former Biden administration official and business professor, will explore AI’s impact on economic growth and employment, according to the company’s blog.
