OpenAI appoints ex-Google chief as head of new Korean unit

OpenAI has appointed Kim Kyoung-hoon, former country director of Google Korea, as the first general manager of its new Korean subsidiary, OpenAI Korea.

Kim, who has over 20 years of experience in IT and consulting, will lead strategic partnerships and efforts to expand the AI ecosystem in Korea.

He previously headed marketing solutions for Google Korea and strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, and also worked at consulting firm Bain & Co.

OpenAI said Korea is one of the fastest adopters of AI in the world, and the company aims to collaborate closely with local government, academia, and industry.

OpenAI Korea was recently launched as its new subsidiary in the country.
