OpenAI, Anthropic said to eye larger offices for European expansion

OpenAI and Anthropic are seeking larger office spaces in Dublin as part of their expansion in Europe, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Anthropic, an AI firm based in the US, is reportedly looking to lease around 25,000 square feet in Dublin over the next three to five years, though the final amount could change.

OpenAI is also searching for similar space, and both companies currently operate from small co-working offices in the city.

Anthropic opened its Dublin office in 2024, making it its EMEA headquarters, and has additional locations in London, Paris, Zurich, and Munich.

OpenAI began operations in Dublin in 2023 and currently employs about 60 people in Ireland, with plans to hire more in 2026.

Both companies declined to comment on specific leasing details.

Dublin already hosts European offices for several major tech companies, including Meta and ByteDance’s TikTok.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Office footprint signals an enterprise sales push, also called go-to-market (GTM), alongside R&D

  •  OpenAI employs around 60 people in Ireland. Anthropic is seeking around 25,000 square feet over three to five years, with OpenAI hunting for similar space, which hints at hiring beyond co-working setups in Dublin.
  •  Dublin roles cover sales, support, and engineering 1, for example a Mid-Market Account Executive. A Staff Software Engineer, Inference, runs AI models in production. The mix centers on customer work for European clients, rather than pure research or cost arbitrage, which means choosing sites mainly to cut costs.

Cloud vendors can bundle EU compliant generative AI (genAI)

  •  Azure OpenAI (Microsoft’s managed service for OpenAI models) supports Data Zone deployments that keep model inference within areas such as the EU 2. AWS Bedrock (Amazon’s managed service for foundation models) offers cross-Region inference profiles that route requests to cloud Regions (geographically isolated data center areas) 3. Coverage includes Anthropic’s Claude in Frankfurt, eu-central-1, and Ireland, eu-west-1. These options help cloud and software vendors enforce EU data residency for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sensitive workloads.
  •  SaaS builders should feature EU localized deployments in sales decks. System integrators, consultancies that implement and customize technology for enterprises, can package Azure OpenAI or AWS Bedrock with region locked configurations plus compliance documentation. That supports procurement teams at European financial services firms and healthcare providers that block US only AI deployments.
